BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The downtown Bellingham “Y” may be moving.
YMCA Executive Director Bill Ziels says they are considering the Civic Athletic Complex as a new location for the YMCA.
The plan would transform the Arne Hannah Aquatic Center and adjacent ball fields and parking into a “a modern recreational hub.”
City staff, YMCA employees and community members are forming a group to study the possibility.
Mayor Kelli Linville says she has also asked the working group to consider redevelopment options for the existing downtown YMCA building, which was built in 1908, in event the group recommends a move away from downtown.
