BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The City of Bellingham is offering more information as its deadline approaches for homeless campers to vacate the City Hall lawn.
The Mayor’s Office has posted an FAQ site addressing the causes behind homelessness, what steps local government is taking and where people can seek shelter and services.
City Councilmember Michael Lilliquist points out that the city functions simply as a funding source for agencies that offer services.
He says the city would have to become a direct service provider to do what many are asking, which he maintains would be impractical.
The city has posted a notice that all campers must vacate the areas around City Hall and the Main Library by 4 p.m. Friday.
