BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Pedestrians will need to avoid a popular walkway in downtown Bellingham for the next few months.

Bellingham Parks and Recreation started repairs on the Wharf Street Trestle Wednesday.

The raised walkway runs behind multiple apartment complexes in downtown Bellingham between the roundabout at North State Street and East Laurel Street and is frequented by runners, walkers and bicyclists.

A structural inspection reported repairs are necessary and the city asks users to detour along North State Street and North Forest during construction, which is expected to last through January.
