A collaboration between the Ferndale Arts Commission and the Lhak’temish Foundation will result in a new art at the Pioneer Pavilion.

38-year-old Jason LaClair of Lummi Nation is working on a Coast Salish mural project on the west side of the Pavilion called “One From the Heart.”

LaClair has been practicing in the Northwest Coast Style for over 20 years and wanted to paint murals in Whatcom County to ensure the First Peoples of Whatcom and the Coast Salish Communities are recognized along with their Coast Salish ancestors.

Two smaller murals are being completed as part of the project, the first of which is nearly finished and will be wrapped up this week.

Completion of the whole project is planned for the end of next summer.
