SPOKANE, Wash. — Campaign contributors like AT&T, BNSF Railway, Northwest Credit Union Association and others have called for refunds from candidate and Republican State Representative Matt Shea of Spokane Valley in the wake of a controversy over a document titled “Biblical Basis for War.”
Shea has been under fire since acknowledging on Facebook last week that he distributed a document titled “Biblical Basis for War” which calls on a “Holy Army” to kill “all males” who do not follow or refuse to “yield” to biblical law.
Former donors including the Northwest Credit Union Association and the Washington Association of Realtors released statements condemning Shea, and national news outlets have joined in.
Rachel Maddow of MSNBC accused him of trying to start a “genocidal war,” while Vice Magazine labelled the document his “manifesto.”
Shea dismissed the accusations on Facebook, saying “For those of us who know the awful cost of war and have seen the aftermath of atrocities firsthand such smears are despicable.”
