OAK HARBOR, Wash.  – Residents near Whidbey Naval Air Station are drinking bottled water after contamination was found in three water wells nearby.

Naval Air Station officer Mike Welding says three of thirteen recently tested drinking water wells showed higher amounts that allowed of perflourylactyl and polyflourylactyl substances in preliminary results.

The CDC says those are from products commonly used in fire fighting foams and products that resist grease, water and oil.

The Navy says it provided bottled water to nearby residents within 24 hours of receiving the test results.

The tests were part of a regime program starting in 2016 checking the nearby Area 6 landfill Navy disposal site, which was used from the 1960’s to the 1990’s.
