BLAINE, Wash. – Two weeks after the Whatcom County Council voted to expand a no-shooting zone at Drayton Harbor, they have unanimously voted to reverse the decision.
But The Northern Light reports that the department of Fish and Wildlife reported there had been no public safety complaints for over twenty years and that the concerns were unfounded.
As co-managers of the Harbor, Lummi Nation was also against the hunting restrictions.
The council saw the vote to expand the existing 300 foot no-shooting buffer to 1,000 feet as a compromise, but now have reversed course after further discussion with the Lummi Nation.
