BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The Whatcom County Council has voted to extend a moratorium on shipments of unrefined fossil fuels from Cherry Point.
The 5-2 vote in favor of the extension came after the Council took public comment at their meeting Tuesday night.
Barbara Brenner and Tyler Byrd were the no votes.
The Council first enacted the temporary moratorium in 2016 while staff drafted an ordinance reforming the permitting process for Cherry Point.
This extends the moratorium for six months while the draft ordinance is finalized.
