BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The state health department reported 11 new positive coronavirus tests for Whatcom County Saturday, the most recent data available.
Over the past week, the number is 46 for the county as a whole, keeping the positivity rate below the state target, at 1.5%.
WWU reported zero positives on over a thousand tests last week, after announcing Friday the school would continue with mostly remote learning for the winter quarter starting January 4th.
Whatcom, Skagit, and Island counties are each passing on three of the four state risk metrics, failing only on rate of new infections per 100 thousand population, although that number is down from a week ago.
San Juan County is passing all four metrics.
Meanwhile, with the new flu season underway, the state department of health reports a low amount of flu activity in the state.
For the first two weeks of the new reporting season, there have been no flu deaths statewide and no lab confirmed cases for the two week period ended October 10th.
Nationwide, the only states reporting moderate flu activity to the CDC are Iowa and West Virginia; the other 48 states report minimal activity.
