BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Whatcom County Executive Satpal Sidhu has called the violence over the weekend at Bellingham City Hall unacceptable.
In an interview with KGMI, Sidhu said the actions of extremists from outside of the community hurts the cause, noting that they must bear some responsibility.
Sidhu said that he spoke with the County Sheriff Friday morning and said anyone breaking the law should face the consequences.
He said he thinks law enforcement will take strong action against the people who vandalized and were violent.
When questioned about why more don’t take advantage of Base Camp facilities, Sidhu said there’s a misconception among the homeless camp residents that they’ll be rejected.
Sidhu said while a few people were rejected by Base Camp, that’s not the case for all of the homeless in the camp, adding that he is still committed to finding a solution.
