BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The Whatcom County Council has put the brakes on a Department of Natural Resources plan to establish a motorized off-road vehicle park in Whatcom County.

Councilman Todd Donovan says people who would have been impacted by the DNR plan largely objected.

He says policing the park would have mostly fallen on the Whatcom County Sheriff’s office.

Those and other issues prompted a unanimous vote by the council Tuesday to not direct the planning department to consider a zoning change for the plan.

Donovan says the county is still in discussions with the state and the planning process continues for a potential ORV park.
