BELLINGHAM, Wash. — While health officials have not yet confirmed a case of the novel coronavirus in Whatcom County, they say an outbreak is possible.

The Whatcom County Health Department says that for now, the risk of exposure is low.

But the department does expect COVID-19 to spread in the US, which could put pressure on local health centers and affect day-to-day activities.

Health officials are urging everyone to prepare now for potential school and office closures and to keep taking simple steps to prevent respiratory illness.

Stay home when you’re sick, cover your cough, and wash your hands.
