BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Whatcom County secured funds for a program that will serve as an alternative to jail time for those who commit low-level drug crimes.
The Whatcom County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office received a $900,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice to implement an innovative LEAD program without costing tax payers.
It’s a public safety and order program that uses human resource tools.
The goal is to improve community health and safety by cutting down on the involvement of the criminal justice system.
