BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Bellingham Police arrested a couple for leading them on high speed chases on city streets in separate vehicles.

The incident began Wednesday when an officer tried to stop a woman driving a car with switched license plates.

The officer tried to stop Sheri D. DeRaimo of Everett in the parking lot of the Baymont Inn but she took off on Meridian Street, reaching speeds of over 90 miles per hour.

She ran numerous red lights and stop signs before coming to a stop on Alabama Street.

The car had been reported stolen in Nevada and she was also found to be a convicted felon in unlawful possession of a handgun.

Her boyfriend, Zachary K. Hertz of Bellingham, made the situation even more dangerous by trying to distract pursuing officers during the chase.

Hertz sped along and in front of them, then tore down Cornwall at more than 95 miles per hour.

His vehicle, which was also stolen in Nevada, was slowed by a blown tire and officers stopped him with a PIT maneuver on I-5.

Both are in jail on numerous charges.
