OLYMPIA, Wash. — A new report shows COVID-19 cases are plateauing in some areas of Washington state.
The state Department of Health released the latest statewide situation report Friday, which reflects an overall plateau and even a slight decline in COVID-19 cases in some areas of the state.
Secretary of Health John Wiesman says that while they see positive trends in the data, it’s still critical to limit the size and frequency of social gatherings, wear face coverings and stay home when sick.
He says a continued plateau of cases is not enough to safely open schools.
Meanwhile, the last three days have seen an uptick of positive coronavirus test reports for Whatcom County.
For Thursday through Saturday, the most recent days with data available, the state reported an average of 8 new positive results per day.
But Whatcom County’s 7- day average “positivity rate” remains at 1.1% of all tests given.
Since the start of the pandemic, persons of Hispanic origin have accounted for 43% of positive virus tests, with 14% of the reported deaths in the county attributed to that group.
