WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Whatcom County is seeing an increase in COVID-19 among the unvaccinated and vaccinated alike.
The latest figures from the Whatcom County Health Department reflect the week of August 15th to the 21st.
They show a case rate of 243 per 100,000 residents.
Of the 559 confirmed cases, 147 were found to be breakthrough cases in people who were fully vaccinated.
There have been a total of five fully vaccinated people who have died of COVID locally.
Despite those figures, the health department stresses that infection and hospitalization rates remain far higher among the unvaccinated than those who’ve received the shots.
