SEATTLE, Wash. (AP) — Four people were killed and four injured when a construction crane fell from Google’s new Seattle campus building in the South Lake Union neighborhood along the busy Mercer Street.
Among those killed were ironworkers Andrew Yoder and Travis Corbet, and Seattle Pacific University freshman Sarah Wong.
A 25-year-old mother and her 4-month-old daughter were in one of the six cars hit by the crane, but suffered only minor injuries.
Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan says crews will be checking other construction cranes in the city to ensure they’re safe.
As of January, Seattle had 60 cranes working, more than any other U.S. city.
Tim Church with the Department of Labor and Industries says they’ve opened investigations into four companies involved, which include general contractor GLY, Northwest Tower Crane Service Inc., Omega Rigging and Machinery Moving Inc. and Morrow Equipment Co. LLC.
