WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Americans, including many Whatcom County residents, are taking on more credit card debt and having a hard time paying it off.

A new study from WalletHub.com looked at nearly 2,600 cities, checking the percentage of people with credit card debt, the average amount of debt and what it would take to pay it off.

Whatcom County does not fare too well in the study.

Residents of Blaine have the most sustainable debt in the county thanks to a lower debt-to-income ratio.

Way down on the list is Bellingham and Ferndale which are both looking at a much higher ratio than Blaine and more time it would take for residents to pay off their debt.
