NORTH CASCADES, Wash. – Rescue crews were able to locate and bring a lost hunter to safety Tuesday night.

Whatcom County Sheriff’s Deputies say the 20-year-old man got caught in heavy snow while hunting in the Yellow Aster Butte area.

He activated his GPS device around 7 pm after his visibility deteriorated and temperatures dipped below freezing.

Bellingham Mountain Rescue crews were able to find him around midnight and bring him to safety.

The Sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post that the hunter was not injured, and was able to find his way back to the trailhead without issue.
