DARRINGTON, Wash. – Snohomish County Search and Rescue launched a 20-hour operation over the weekend, rescuing two hikers stranded in the mountains after snow moved in.

The Sheriff’s Office got an alert from a Personal Locator Beacon at 6,800 feet on Three Fingers Mountain near Darrington Sunday morning, October 10th.

Two hikers were stranded after heavy snow made the trail too treacherous to hike down.

When the weather cleared Sunday afternoon, a helicopter was able to drop a rescue crew at 5,000 feet.

Crews located the hikers and helped them navigate the trail down the mountain.

The rescue operation lasted from 11 am Sunday to 7 am Monday morning.
