ENUMCLAW, Wash. — Crystal Mountain Resort must control stormwater runoff from parking lots by October 31 or face daily fines, according to a federal judge’s order.

The Seattle Times reports conservationists sued in 2006 saying the resort was violating the Clean Water Act with runoff impacting nearby Silver Creek and the resort agreed to complete most of the work by October 31, 2013.

Despite new sewage-water-treatment facilities the judge ruled last week that improvements were to include low spots to filter parking lot runoff.

The resort’s attorney argued “all evidence supports that water quality in Silver Creek is being protected.”
