MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — A chunk of Highway 9 will be closed all week as crews work to improve fish passage in Gribble Creek beneath the road.

The Department of Transportation reports it will close in both directions between Cultus Court and West Big Lake Boulevard by Big Lake starting Monday at 7 A.M. and crews plan to reopen the road by 7 A.M. Saturday.

A detour using Highway 534, I-5 and Highway 538 will likely affect several thousand vehicles each day.

The project is among more than 800 statewide that a U.S. District Court ruled in 2013 WSDOT must complete by 2030 to improve fish passage.
