ARLINGTON, Va. — A national dairy group says “whipsaws” in that industry won’t be getting better any time soon.
Peter Vitaliano is chief economist for the National Milk Producers Federation, and he says price volatility this year due to pandemic is increasing the risk of more dairy farm closures.
He says 9% of dairy farms were lost nationally in 2019.
Vitaliano forecasts prices leveling through the rest of the year, with prices in line with what was seen in March when the pandemic began.
