OLYMPIA, Wash. — A new report shows data breaches in the state rose nearly 20% in 2019, but the number of people affected dropped during the same period.

Attorney General Bob Ferguson released the report showing some 390,000 Washington residents had been impacted by data breaches between July 2018 and July 2019, a significant decrease from the 3.4 million impacted the previous year.

Next year’s numbers are expected to be higher because the report does not include the Capital One breach announced in late July.
