OLYMPIA, WASH. – Lawmakers are running out of time to fully fund education.

They have until the end of the session to meet the mandates of the McCleary decision, and there is still no agreement between the Democrat-controlled House and the Republican-controlled Senate.

Governor Jay Inslee says the Senate budget falls short.

“The way I would describe it is a paltry investment of new dollars in the education of our children,” Inslee says.

But Senate Leader Mark Schoesler says the Democrats want to spend money they don’t have.

“We can’t negotiate with phony tax dollars that don’t exist. We have to negotiate with only hard dollars that really exist from hard-working taxpayers,” Schesler says

The legislative session ends on April 23.
