BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Primary election ballots must be in by Tuesday at 8:00 P.M. to be counted, and voters are encouraged to use the drop boxes throughout the county since it’s unlikely the ballot will be postmarked by today if sent in the mail.

It’s a busy ballot with Whatcom County voting on the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Maria Cantwell, both our U.S. congressional district seats, five state legislative positions, a County Prosecutor and appeals judge and a County Council member.

Cantwell is running for re-election against a long list of competitors from various parties, including former State Republican Chair Susan Hutchison.

Three local incumbent republicans in the legislature are up against some prominent names in local government.

Preliminary results will be released after 8:00 tonight, based on ballots the Auditor’s Office has already received and counted with more results to come over the next two weeks.
