DECEPTION PASS, Wash. – Pass Lake in Deception Pass State Park has reopened to paddlers and anglers.
The lake was closed in August after a toxic algae bloom made it hazardous for people and animals.
The AP reports that park staff removed a beaver dam and cleaned up the outlet valve to allow water to flow more freely through the lake.
Along with those improvements, recent rainfall helped flush the toxins out and the Washington State Department of Health declared the lake ready for recreational use.
