DEMING, Wash. – Police arrested a Deming man on child rape charges on Monday, March 14th.
Courts documents state 37-year-old Steven Michael Champeau was arrested after a neighbor’s daughter told investigators he had sexually assaulted her multiple times between September of 2020 and November of 2021.
The victim says she was 14 when the rapes occurred.
The victim’s parents told investigators Champeau appeared to be grooming their daughter and would buy her knives, clothing and hair dye.
Champeau was booked into Whatcom County jail and is being held on $50,000 bail.
