DEMING, Wash. — A local woman is among 41 American nurses who are answering a call for help from COVID-stricken India.
Heather Forthofer of Deming had retired as a nurse but returned to the profession when the pandemic hit.
She’s traveled to New York and other hot spots in the U.S. and says she now feels she can make a difference in India.
She said it’s not going to be pleasant, and there’s no staff and there are hospitals that want them to fully staff them due to a lack of personnel and some want them to train their nurses.
The nurses plan to be in India for 30 days and will leave on June 1st.
They won’t be paid and have to cover their trip out-of-pocket.
Heather says she’s met her goal on her personal GoFundMe page but they have another set up to help fund the group.
