OLYMPIA, Wash. — The state Department of Ecology has levied fines against businesses in both Whatcom and Skagit Counties.

The Department issued more than $2-million in penalties during the fourth quarter of 2019 in an effort to protect Washington’s environment and promote wise management.

In October, Ecology fined the BP Cherry Point Refinery in Blaine $8,000 for incomplete labels on dangerous waste containers, improper waste management, and missing inspection logs.

The agency fined Marine Servicenter in Anacortes $30,000 after the company allowed polluted stormwater to runoff into Fidalgo Bay.
