SEATTLE, Wash. — A pop-up cake shop is stopping by Seattle, to provide a sweet way to approach a bittersweet subject.

The Depressed Cake Shop event is Saturday in Seattle.

It’s a bake sale aimed at mental health awareness and the proceeds this year benefit the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in Seattle.

Dozens of local bakers and confectioners will donate their specially themed treats that represent depression.

Examples from prior years include brightly colored cakes covered in gray icing, doughnuts with messages on them and cookies decorated like emojis.

Depressed Cake Shop’s motto is, “Where there is cake there is hope, and there is always cake.”
