OLYMPIA, Wash. — A landmark interagency agreement will provide water for homes on wells in Skagit County.

The Department of Ecology announced they reached the agreement with Seattle City Light to uphold Ecology’s commitment to find solutions for Skagit Basin landowners affected by the 2013 Supreme Court ruling that imposed water use limits in the area.

Ecology says they’ll purchase the water, tied to a water right owned by Seattle City Light, to provide water to more than 400 homes in both Skagit and Snohomish Counties with additional water for fish in the Skagit River.

This is the first step in developing a water mitigation program, which Ecology expects to begin next year.
