OLYMPIA, Wash. — A grant totaling more than $3 million will help lead removal work in Washington.

Each year, the Washington State Department of Health identifies more than 500 kids with elevated levels of lead in their blood, which often comes from lead paint dust inside homes.

The agency was awarded $3.3 million, mostly from from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, to address lead hazards in homes for low-income families with children.

Rad Cunningham, an official with the DOH, says the funds will help them remove lead from homes and prevent other children from being poisoned.
