KENT, Wash. — The rise in temperatures is prompting a warning about possible health risks.

The Department of Health issued an advisory, saying older adults, people with chronic medical conditions, young children and people who exercise outside are at the most risk when temperatures spike.

Washington saw a significant rise in hospital visits from people experiencing heat-related illness earlier this month.

Unless you are accustomed to or have a high tolerance for heat, the agency says people should stay inside or in air-conditioned areas.

For your pets, make sure they have plenty of water, avoid walking them on hot pavement and keep them in a shaded or cool environment, and never in a hot vehicle.
