SEATTLE, Wash. — Washington State Ferries wants to get five more Olympic class ferries–two to maintain the fleet and three to replace vessels due to retire.
KOMO reports 25 million riders traveled among Puget Sound communities in 2017, making it the largest ferry system in America.
Estimates say that ridership may grow 30% by 2040.
Ferry workers have had to shuffle vessels, temporarily cancel routes and shift times as the aging ferries need more repairs.
