BIRCH BAY, Wash. — A suspect who evaded authorities in a high-speed chase in Birch Bay is still on the loose.
Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Deb Slater told The Northern Light that a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation near Arnie and Blaine roads around noon on January 12, but instead of stopping, the vehicle sped off at over 100mph.
A woman jumped out of the vehicle while it was moving at a slower speed and the deputy stopped the pursuit to help with her minor injuries.
An investigation determined the woman’s boyfriend, 32-year-old Kevyn A. Johannesson, had held her against her will.
The vehicle was later found abandoned in Birch Bay and a K-9 was unable to locate Johannesson.
Deputies are still searching for him.
