BELLINGHAM, WA. – (KGMI.com) The Washington State Department of Natural Resources has released new tsunami evacuation maps for seven coastal communities, including Bellingham.

The new maps show the times it would take to evacuate on foot from the tsunami zones caused by a Cascadia subduction zone earthquake.

Evacuation routes are also clearly shown from any area along the coast.

Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz was quoted with the release of the maps saying, “nothing is more important than knowing where to go to be safe and how long it will take to get there.”

In addition to the new maps, three new sets of simulation videos were released, showing the extent and depth of tsunami on-land flooding as well as maximum velocities of currents.

All can be viewed on the DNR’s website.
