WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – A driver from Bellingham hit a parked State Patrol vehicle that had its warning lights flashing Thursday morning on I-5.

The trooper was not in the cruiser while he investigated a separate collision in the left southbound lane near Lake Samish at about 6 a.m.

Melody Lancaster was driving with a male passenger and two children when she hit the trooper’s SUV.

No one was injured in the crash that backed up southbound traffic.

Troopers say Lancaster was driving too fast for conditions.
