OLYMPIA, Wash. — Changes are coming to your driver license.
Beginning this Sunday, July 1st, all standard Washington driver licenses will be marked with “Federal Limits Apply.” This shows the license can’t be used for official federal identification purposes under the federal REAL ID Act.
But you will still be able to use your standard license to board airplanes and enter secure federal facilities until October 2020 under a Department of Homeland Security waiver.
Also, starting in September new and re-issued licenses will have a new numbering system to help protect your identity.
