OLYMPIA, Wash. – The current ebb in omicron infections is leading to speculation that the Washington State’s mask mandates may be eased.

KOMO reports that an infectious disease expert with University of Washington Medicine is feeling positive about the current trend.

But Dr. Paul Pottinger says it’s “too soon” to lift mask requirements in public places.

A spokesperson for Governor Inslee says they’re also cautiously optimistic but wouldn’t offer any specific timeline for ditching mask mandates.

Oregon is among other state’s that have said they’re ready to allow maskless gatherings.

Oregon will stop requiring masks no later than March 31, while Californians can go mask free indoors starting February 15th.
