OLYMPIA, Wash. — Outdoor burning is now banned statewide.

The Department of National Resources reports 96% of the state is experiencing drought-like conditions.

Public Lands Commissioner Hilary Franz is instituting a statewide ban on outdoor burning on lands under DNR fire protection starting Thursday, August 2.

The burn ban doesn’t include federally managed lands, like national forests and national parks.

Campfires are still allowed in approved fire pits within some campgrounds.

The ban is expected to last through September.
