BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The director of a local nonprofit is running for office.
Karen Burke, executive director of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services, announced she’ll run for Whatcom County Executive in 2020.
Current executive Jack Louws recently announced his decision to not run for reelection.
Burke says she’s ready to work with residents and partners to address issues like affordable housing, criminal justice reform, rural transportation access and water quality.
Burke has been the executive director of DVSAS since 2007 and worked as the Director of the Lummi Nation Tribal Court for eight years.
