BELLINGHAM, WA. – (KGMI.com) With an estimated 250 ballots left to be counted, the results of last Tuesday’s election appear to be all but determined.
Kim Lund will be Bellingham’s next mayor after slightly trailing in the initial results, she now holds a 2,000-vote lead over incumbent Seth Fleetwood
Mayor Fleetwood said in a statement to KGMI that he congratulates Kim and stands ready to help and assist in the transition.
Meanwhile, Blaine Police Chief Donnell Tanksley leads the race for Whatcom County Sheriff after trailing Undersheriff Doug Chadwick in the initial count.
He holds just over a 3,000 vote lead with 52% of voters backing him.
Incumbent Satpal Sidhu maintained his strong lead over Dan Purdy for County Executive with about 58% of votes.
And the measure for a sales and use tax to fund a new county jail passed with a decisive 63% of votes.
Just over half of all registered voters returned their ballot in Whatcom County, which ranks second in the state for voter turnout.
