BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Employment in Whatcom County remains solid.
The Employment Security Department reports the local jobless rate for August was 4.8%, up a bit from July’s revised rate of 3.9%.
But employment has been consistent through 2022 at an average rate that’s on par with the years before the pandemic.
The year-to-date average unemployment rate of 4.8% in Whatcom County is equal to or better than the yearly average rates in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
And the local economy has kept pace with a growing workforce by adding thousands of jobs.
