WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Employment in Whatcom county appears to be trending up.

According to the Washington State Employment Security Department, the estimated unemployment rate for March was 5.3%, down slightly from 5.4% in February.

The county added almost 700 jobs last month as well.

The numbers show a marked improvement from March of last year, which had an unemployment rate of 7.1% and about 7,000 fewer people in the labor force.

This newest rate is better than the 5.7% in March of 2020 just before the onset of COVID-19.
