SEATTLE, Wash. — Three conservation groups are suing the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, accusing it of not protecting the Puget Sound marine habitat.
KOMO reports the Washington Environmental Council, Sound Action, and Friends of the San Juans filed the lawsuit Monday, saying the agency does not adequately regulate Puget Sound shoreline armoring projects.
Seawalls, bulkheads, and other concrete or rock structures prevent erosion and protect waterfront homes, but shrink beaches and damage fish habitat.
‘A spokeswoman with the Army Corps in Seattle declined to comment on the dispute.
