MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — An Island County environmental organization is appealing the state’s decision to allow Navy Seal training in state parks.
The Whidbey Environmental Action Network has filed a lawsuit asking the court to reverse the State Parks and Recreation Commission’s decision.
The Skagit Valley Herald reports the court documents argue the commission did not review the proposal thoroughly enough under the State Environmental Policy Act.
The appeal states the impacts could be significant, in particular to the recreational activities support by the natural environments preserved on state park land.
The commission’s January 28th decision allows training in 28 state parks, including six that are on or near Whidbey Island.
