FERNDALE. Wash. – The City of Ferndale is asking for an immediate voluntary evacuation of homes and businesses in the area south of Main Street between 4th Street and the Nooksack River.

The city issued the notice at 10:20 a.m. Tuesday.

The river has not crested yet but there is concern that it could breach the levee in that area.

This are includes many homes and businesses, including some along Main Street, and the Boys and Girls Club near Pioneer Park.

Everyone in the area is asked to secure their properties and belongings and leave immediately.

The city will announce when it’s safe to return.
