EVERETT, Wash. (AP) – An Army colonel was awarded nearly $8.5 million dollars in a defamation case against an Everett blogger.
The Washington Post reported Susan Shannon accused Colonel Wil Riggins of raping her more than 30 years ago.
Shannon and Riggins were cadets at West Point at the time.
An Army investigation couldn’t “prove or disprove” Shannon’s allegations. A jury sided with Riggins.
The actual damages will likely be limited to $2.3 million. Shannon plans to appeal.
