EVERETT, Wash. – Everett’s controversial “no sit, no lie” ordinance aimed at the city’s on-going homeless crisis took effect Tuesday.

The ordinance bans sitting or lying down in a 10 block section of Everett.

KING 5 reports business owners had pleaded with the city to enact the ordinance in response to a large homeless encampment and increasing crime.

Also on Tuesday, Everett opened a pilot project of pallet homes paid for with a federal grant.

The project next to the Everett Gospel Mission is planned to house 30 chronically homeless people.

Everett’s mayor says police officers will provide outreach and issue warnings before any enforcement of the “no sit. no lie” ordinance is made.
